Opening Helen’s world through sound and vibration
BAFTA Award winning and 2 time Academy Award nominated Jered Sorkin, delivered his raw, vulnerable and layered composition style to Whirlpool. World premiere percussionist, Dame Evelyn Glennie, joined him, bringing her unmatched understanding of vibration and frequency to not only open up Helen’s world for the audience, but potentially create a more accessible film for those hard of hearing. Together they tested and played over 40 instruments and other objects, in both conventional and unconventional ways, seeking after the perfect vibrations and sounds to communicate Helen’s experience. Evelyn’s own study of Helen Keller, as well as her own experience being deaf, enriched the composition even more.
